I will look into a dip this evening. The stupid copper is not going to be here till next week on Wednesday. It was out of California and was expecting it sooner. At least I can have that in the tank while I am gone.

Another cheap solution to try

There's also peroxide bath at 1 teaspoon per 1/2 gallon for 15-30 minutes or if fish start to splash (no aeration, and mixed slowly prior to adding fish).

The mix I saw said to do 1/2 cup of salt to 1 gallon of water and time 5 minutes with the fish.

The peroxide dip looks interesting....

@Rocksor: It was a 5% salt solution in 4L of water. Marine concentration (3.5%) was 140g/4L, so I used 200g/4L, which I think is 12.6 tbp per gal assuming 1 tbp = 15g, and 1 gal is 3.785L.

@DMD: If you go for a salt dip, I wouldn't put a FW fish in a near marine concentration of salt for 5 minutes. It wouldn't be any more effective than a shorter dip and would increase stress. With the sick SD I was told to do 3.5% salt concentration for 30s - 1 minute, removing the fish if it started splashing. Upped it to 5% as a last resort and had a lot of success with it, but the SD only tolerated it for 15s or so before he started thrashing around.

The more Ive been reading on the peroxide bath makes me think this is a better way to go. I know for instance if you have a mouth sore like biting the inside of your cheek that it can be used like a mouthwash and help heal. The concentration level is quite low and a 1/2 hour in the bath tells me its relativity safe to do. I think its time to try that one tonight. Chunk is going to hate me for sure.

She will lol, but the peroxide bath is pretty safe (tried that on the SD too). Hydrogen peroxide breaks down to water and oxygen gas so it's fairly harmless. I think hydrogen peroxide can also be used as a direct swab too, but not really much of an option here as Chunk's pretty much covered in these damn things.

Thanks for that info. The stuff we get from our drug store is a 3% solution while one of the article made reference to a 35% commercial grade stuff, wow!

Depending on how bad chunk is thrashing around I may try to swab an area for comparison during the treatment.

I hope that shows results. For future reference, how much did you dilute it for the bath? I have 3% solution too.

The link was in liters and milliliters so I tried to convert and came up with 4 teaspoons peroxide to 2 gallons of water. Fish showed no distress.
