Tend to agree with UNC looks like a heater burn. When Oscars sleep they tend to settle on the bottom, where is your heater and is it possible for your Oscar to come into contact when asleep? Probably suggest looking at heater guard and relocating heater.

I can tilt the heater so it is horizontal. Would you recommend burying it?

Definitely don't bury it ,running horizontally will help.

Should I be changing the water daily until it heals?

That looks like a burn to me. A heater guard's a must, but you'll definitely need to do daily w/cs and keep a good eye on that. It looks pretty bad, poor little guy.

Guys, it got bigger overnight and you can kind of see where it looks like it's spreading. Did he burn that much and it's peeling or is this something else. It looks pretty bad. Been doing 50% w/c daily. He's eating and swimming around like normal. His tail kind of shudders every once and a while. Pretty worried about him and I also have a heater guard on order.

Yeah, I'm sure that's nothing to worry about. It's just dead tissue turning white where the heater was touching it. It will do that before it starts to begin looking better. Still, keep an eye on it and let us know about any other changes.

Okay thank you. Is there anything else I can do for him to help the healing?
