My Oscar Harley has started mostly refusing food and throwing these massive temper tantrums. At least that's what they look like to me. Swimming really fast in the corner up and down, using his body to knock gravel around, uprooting plants, knocking decorations over. In one spot he has the gravel cleared nearly to the bottom of the tank. He also swims "angrily" with his mouth wide open. I say he, but it may be a she.

My theory, he wants fatty foods. This all started after the last live fish feeding. So I think he's just being a spoiled brat. Water parameters all check out. I did a 30+ percent water change two days ago just in case too. Tank is 75 gallon with just the one Oscar and a couple mystery snails. The oscar is not full grown yet. I'll probably get a bigger tank at some point but fight now he's about 6 inches long.

Any thoughts? Is this normal Oscar behavior? Is mine exceptionally grouchy? Any suggestions for making him happier? Or is this maybe a heat or nesting behavior thing? Thanks!

had clear gravel showing up the bottom of the glass...
sign of nesting... tantrum is like protecting the area,
and hate anyone who comes near the tank...
one normal sign of maturing oscar...
next time, grab a cam and take footage... LOL!

Glad to know it is normal. It's hard to find good information online. Thanks! :)

Yeah, no probs for you. All cichlids like to dig and move stuff around. Speaks to their general intelligence. I have a wide variety of fish, males, females, solo, community, young and old. They all dig and clear spaces. May be nesting instincts, may be they just like it. All normal whatever you choose to call it
