Since there are so many brands of pellets out there maybe we could have a discussion on what to look for in the content list of a quality pellet and some things to avoid. This way we could come up with a consensus guideline to follow in choosing a lesser known brand if a person doesn't have access to the trusted brands.

So far i'm thinking,

1. First ingredient should be some sort of fish meal, krill meal, shrimp meal, or something along these lines

2. Avoid foods containing both wheatmeal and cornmeal, wheatmeal alone would be ok

3. Soybean meal is ok

4. No more than 45% protien content and probably less than 40% for adult fish for their staple pellet. Can on occasion give pellets with higher amounts of protein as treats, including some of the carnivorous pellets available

2. Avoid foods that contain both wheatmeal and cornmeal in the ingredient list. Wheatmeal alone is fine and unavoidable for pellet food.

4. Not sure if I want to put this because high protein is fine in moderate amounts.

You wouldn't want to go above this though for their everyday pellet

I think as far as fruit or vegetables go there are no restrictions ? Its a hit and miss thing there. I probably wouldnt feed him anything like a lemon with a high acid content...but you never know.
