carriejoelle created the topic: Boyd Enterprises Vitachem dosage

Hello,

I'm going to start giving my Oscar (about 5" at the moment) Vitachem. I'm going to syringe it into small crickets. He is picky with his pellets so I don't want to start soaking his pellets in the Vitachem incase he starts to reject the non-soaked pellets.

I figured I'd give him 1 vitamin cricket 2 or 3 times per week. My question, though, is how much I should add to each cricket? is 0.1 mm too much...or too little? He is picky with his pellets so I don't want to start soaking his pellets in the Vitachem incase he starts to reject the non-soaked pellets.

Thanks all!

Although I am a long time Vitachem user, I have never syringed it into anything in the fashion you propose. I have noticed however that it has never deterred fish from having the normal feed, whether it be pellets or freeze dried goods. If you cant seem to make the syringe work well enough, try a few pellets. I doubt the fish will automatically turn off his pellets. I find freeze dried treats like krill, shrimp and tubifex worms absorb Vitachem very well. 2-3x weekly is a good enough interval though. As for the amount, i guess a drop or two is fine, what that is in ml, I couldnt say. If you go thru with he cricket thing, please let us know how it works!

Thanks for the suggestion.

I ended up getting a very thin gauge syringe from my local drug store and injected crickets with the vitamins. They actually fill up like water balloons, it was pretty neat. I filled 3 small crickets with the equivalent to 3 drops of Vitachem. My Oscar gobbled them up right away. It was actually very easy to do and didn't take much time at all. I make sure the crickets were dead already (Put them in the freezer for a few minutes).
