It's a giant water snake, and yes, the Limpopo, but more specifically, the smallish dams fed by the Limpopo is supposedly where it lives. There's a lot of rock art in the area depicting it.

Just don't think the Limpopo is a river as people from Europe and the UK know them. Most of the year, you can walk across it without getting wet - and illegally enter Botswana or Zimbabwe. The real danger there is elephants, crocodiles and crazy white-guy hunters who take pot-shots at archeology students because they're drunk and it seemed like it might be fun

Anyway, I've seen lungfish cucoons there. No space for more fish right now, but one day, I shall have a lungfish somewhere.

We do get catfish as well - 'babers' (baah-birs - with a rolled r) that grow quite huge. There are rumours all over the place of kids having been eaten by them. They also allegedly survive any water quality.

there are lot of fish that breath air or gasping for air sometimes...
pangasius is one among them but not included in the list... climbing
perch is another sample.... and yes, the snakehead who can hibernate
in a waterless mud for more than 3 months....
