Visited the Camden aquarium today and saw this Amazon beast, an arapaima. About 6 or so feet long in what seemed like a 25-30 foot x 12 foot aquarium. I hadn't realized that these things existed; seems related to the arowana, though much bigger. Quite an amazing fish. I found a breeder online selling them from about 4 to 6 inches for 200 bucks! They say you need minimum 1000 gallon, but that doesn't seem nearly adequate for a fish that can grow easily to ten feet long. Anyway, beautiful ancient fish from the Jurassic period.

Camden has a small collection of cichlids as well, if you look closely enough, though mostly sharks and other salt water giants. The ones that bring in the crowds. I tried to collect shots of the "less spectacular" fresh water specimens for fun.

These africans were going to town on the back of this hippo

She didn't look none too pleased

But they don't care.

There were a couple of Geos in this set up as well. Yes, that is a gator tail to the right. Always has to be one show off.

I think this little guy wanted me to take him home. "Please save me from humongous alligator. I am great with kids."

Yeah those pacu are massive. I owned one too as a kid. I chuckled because they call them "silver dollars" on the sign. The name kind of loses its meaning when they are more than three across. We have a membership and go about every three months.

DAMN!!! THAT ARAPAIMA GOT HUGE!!! My son had a school trip there & I chaperoned when he was in 5th grade.....he started HS this year, so that was 5 years ago or so, & I swear to you it wasn't even 1/2 that size!!!

THOSE WHO REFUSE KNOWLEDGE ARE DOOMED TO FAIL.

WATER CHANGES ARE THE LIFEBLOOD OF THIS HOBBY. IF YOU DON'T BELIEVE SO OR SIMPLY DON'T FEEL LIKE DOING THEM, RE-HOME YOUR FISH, SELL YOUR AQUARIUM & FIND ANOTHER HOBBY, AS YOU WILL FAIL UTTERLY, COMPLETELY, & MISERABLY.
