turtle lover created the topic: Alligator Gar

Who remembers the alligator gar? The prehistoric giant Jeremy Wade, Jakub Vagner, and Zeb Hogan were after. Just out of curiosity, how many think alligator gars are man-eaters?

I don't, I think after that episode of river monster, that they got a very bad reputation because of the other predator they share their habitat with, the alligator.

I've not heard of a gar specifically attacking a person.

I've experienced alligator gars first hand, and although they do get huge, when they encounter a human, they can be curious but tend to keep they're distance. I don't doubt that they can get big enough, but I don't think they would be motivated enough to, unless starving.

The episode "American Killers" said that there are still gars that can reach over 7 feet. Something like 8-14 feet

Still no man-eating fish,, imo...
Gars do snatch prey to big to swallow, but humans, nah, don't think so...
