Back to the Gar Im going to set up tank with lots of cave so Ill put what Ive got in there and see from there. :)

There sholud be more gars about there not many people seem to keep them.

Let's bump the gar's a bit, for it's too hot to go out here today.
The most important thing ,is the footprint of the tank.
The most common Gar is often called the "spotted",but these are bred by only a few breeders, to be honest, i think it's only one....
They have a small difference in appearance, but 99% are Florida Gar.
The footprint shouldt be 6'by 2', for a Gar is a hard scaled fish, and has a hard time turning around. They turn in an S-shape to turn around.
Driftwood placed too close to windows can become a problem too, so keep some distance between the wood and the glass.

And indeed they can be hard to get, allthough ordering from the internet, can get you a real spotted.
I was actually looking for a topdwelling "false gar", when i stumbled upon 3 babies in not-my-favorite LFS.
But since they are real piscivores and will eat any sick or half-dead fish without getting sick, i took the chance, and now mine passed a foot in lenght, but stopped there.

When you get them as baby's this often happens.But they could reach 20" in a tank, so then the 6x2 will be to small...and you'd be lucky, you can get a bigger tank!!!

Mine only ate live feeders, but after 4 days i wiggled a dead silverside on the watersurface, and he took the bait!

Live feeders can pose a threat to any other fish, so better safe then sorry!

I'm living my life, but not necessarily in the right order :)

i've got new technique now, i bought fresh prawn and shrimps in the wet market;
cut and separate the head and the body; i have headless prawns/shrimps for me,
and frozen shrimp's/prawn's head for my fishes! anyway, i found out that the
head contains more cholesterol than the body LOL!
