Nina_W created the topic: new community fish :)

Since this is now a tank with a guppy, three species of snail, shrimps and now, a siamese fighter fish, I can safely call it a community tank.

Look at my new fishy!

Seems our landlord's kid got himself a 1 gallon goldfish bowl with a black moor, two fantails, a koi and this little guy - which was the last straw for his parents (they came in a matter of 48 hours, one after the other, the fish were a bit hurt by poor water, but nothing serious).

His dad threatening to flush them all had him at our door at 11 ish today, and after I was no longer quite as mad, we made a plan (I called a pet shop that I have a good relationship with)

The pet shop took in the goldfish (and offered the boy a weekend job so that he can be around fishies without killing them in a bowl, shame, he got such a speech from me, and then from the shop too!), but wouldn't really take in another fighter fish (the 15th is new fish stock day, for most pet shops around here, so they were full up). So I kept him. Still quite a little guy, but truly loving the dense planting. I'll put up a vid so you can see what I mean :)

I'm not sure on a name yet. The kid called it 2Pac, which does not do much for me.

The whitest little fish, and he names it 2Pac. It really is quite hillarious :D

Thanks, both of you :) I think he's lovely. There are these mini-stand offs going on in the tank where the new fishy tries to steal food from a shrimp. As of now, it's shrimps 4, betta 0. Poor guy. But the tiny, tiny snails are seeing a bit of a population decline - this suits me just fine :)

Lines like "I ain't got no motherf%&*ing friends That's why I f#@$ed your bitch" turn me off him a bit. That and the way women are pretty much meat in his videos.

The guppy came from my mom-in-law, she needed a population reduction, but the last little one had big, guppy eyes and well, I kept it.

I hope I can find balance with him in there for the long haul. It should be possible, although I am quite stocked now. I'll keep a very close eye on it, especially as this one grows (it's so little, its body is 2 cm long, so it really should double in size). Another factor is if this guy turns out to be a shrimp harasser, he'll have to go. It's luck of the draw, but you do increase your chances by having established shrimp, then adding your fishy.

So far, though, nothing serious. The shrimp are handing it to him. It's far too early to tell, though. Hold thumbs for me!

I hear you but what about Brendas Got a baby ?

She's 12 years old and she's having a baby
In love with the molester, who's sexing her crazy
And yet she thinks that he'll be with her forever
And dreams of a world with the two of them are together,
whatever
He left her and she had the baby solo, she had it on the
bathroom floor
And didn't know so, she didn't know, what to throw away and
what to keep
She wrapped the baby up and threw him in the trash heep
I guess she thought she'd get away
Wouldn't hear the cries
She didn't realize
How much the the little baby had her eyes
Now the baby's in the trash heep balling
Momma can't help her, but it hurts to hear her calling
Brenda wants to run away
Momma say, you makin' me lose pay, the social workers here
everyday

He was a big activist in black communities and raising awareness about the struggles of the black community at his time

but yes he did objectify women quite often :S

And that will be awesome if he can stay !!

and why does it increase you chances of having established shrimp with a fish in the tank??

I'm speculating here as to the reasons why, but many people (actually, most who have fish with shrimp) found that first shrimp, then fish was the way to go. Within reason, some fish will eat them regardless (some fish that you have a chance with, but it's not guaranteed are guppies, platies, fighter fish, corydoras, smaller danios, some smaller pleco species, and your smaller tetras like neons. Not black skirts, apparently, and definitely not barbs).

I think it's because for aquarium fish, food comes from above. If the shrimps don't come from above, they won't be seen as food quite so directly. Very few ornamental fish have hunted for generations and generations (more so with your long-established genetic mutants like goldfish and betta fish), so you have fair odds that they won't recognise live food as food - like arowana or peacock bass not eating pellets or flakes, they have no idea what it is.
