I've never seen it recommended on shrimp focused sites, nor heard it encouraged from any shrimp enthusiast, that you keep fish with them. Even fish that don't eat them make them nervous, shortening their lifespan (dramatically - much closer to their life expectancy in nature, where they are food for pretty much everything).

So I'm not doing the best thing for the shrimps here, but there are many reasons why I feel ok with that.

One of them is that Justin still does not like them much, so if they hide a bit more, and reproduce more slowly, this works in favour of the general feeling of goodwill towards fishtanks in the house. Another is that this little fish deserves a good life, and that this was initially intended for a betta fish anyway (the shrimps were a nice surprise find, sure, and they're way cool, but they're not a fish).

Edit: I guess it's a bit like keeping smaller, less aggressive fish with an oscar (angelfish, or giant danios, or perhaps even bristle-nosed plecos are examples). They may get bullied, chased around, not eat as well (or the kinds of food) that would be perfect for them, but they can be perfectly happy, live a perfectly acceptably long life, just perhaps not as much so as if they had a tank to themselves.

what would you have done if a kid in tears with a fishbowl showed up at your door?
They're having it rough, our landlords, and he's getting the short end of it all too often as well.
Clearly I'm not mad any more.

Yeah, sorry Eddie. I'm writing day and night now to finish my stupid thesis which I really, really just want done now, and this has made me lazy to write properly here. I could have expressed myself better too :silly:

Regardless, here's a VIDEO!
Yay!

Thank you, Eddie.
So many plants. I can watch Silky and the shrimpies move through them all day (both can dissapear completely).
Silky really seems to like the denseness, well adapted to fitting through the little gaps. They always say these fish come from densely planted areas, but you really see it in this tank. I was worried there wouldn't be space for Silky to swim, but that isn't a problem :)

Aha!
So that's the new signature fish! :P
I couldn't place what it was or where it came from, now i know...
I like it...but i still prefer the purple one Ben (i think) put a picture of, on the site, some time ago.
But i allways prefer purple...can't argue about taste! ;)

Yeah, all you have to do is go to walmart and see them in the little plastic tubs. :( My heart goes out to the poor little guys every time-I don't care how they say they can live in such small spaces and have lungs to breathe air-its BS. No fish deserves to live like that!

Your betta's beautiful-I didn't know they came in white!

Thank you, Jnet and Auburnaquarist.

I'm really quite taken with it. I moved the little tank over to my oscar's tank to clean my desk, and there it was, flaring at an oscar that's big enough to breathe it in without thinking.

Truly, more people should spare a bit of space for one. Surely everyone has a spot for a 7 gallon tank, and time to change 4 gallons a week?

The white is quite something, apparently a pure, opaque white is quite rare. It also seems like my little guy has a delta tail, and isn't a veil tail. But too small to really say.
