toni-a created the topic: I have two empty tanks help stocking

Hi
I have two empty tank one is 113 cm (3.7 feet) long 65 gallon the other is 75cm (2.7 feet) long 40 gallon, I have also my green terrors in a 60X60X60 cm (2X2X2
) 60 gallon tank

I am trying to populate the new tanks:
I am considering doing africans in the 65 gallon (aulonocara + yellow lab)
as for the 40 gallon I can put a pair of jewel cichlids but it would be to similar for the other two so I am cnsidering something radically different.
ay suggestions ?

Since you have a South American tank and an African tank, you should go Central American with the 40g.

So yeah firemouths. Let us know what fish from Central America are available from your fish store.

I am worried about the very high pH in my tap water, would central american cichlids do well in very hard water ?
I used to mix water from the AC with tap water to decrease hardness, now we don't need AC anymone and I am noticing the green terroors stopped breeding, the colors have faded, they eat less and the growth is very slow,
They are doing fine in alkaline water but nothing to compare with their previous state, hadn't I seen how they behaved before I wouldn't noticed the difference

pH is 8.5 water is so calcareous that near water surface because of evaporation I have a calcium deposit

Midas/RD will outgrow a 40GL. How about Neetroplus Neematopus?

Don't get big @ all, around the same size as Convicts & FM's around 5" or so, but are a good looking fish, very hardy, & quite possibly, pound-for-pound, THE most aggressive cichlid out there.

When they breed they turn black w/ a white stripe, & look a lot like the Tropheus complex from L. Tanganyika.

Also, my Philly tap H2O is 8.2, & my CA's & SA's (Festae) are doing just fine.

THOSE WHO REFUSE KNOWLEDGE ARE DOOMED TO FAIL.

WATER CHANGES ARE THE LIFEBLOOD OF THIS HOBBY. IF YOU DON'T BELIEVE SO OR SIMPLY DON'T FEEL LIKE DOING THEM, RE-HOME YOUR FISH, SELL YOUR AQUARIUM & FIND ANOTHER HOBBY, AS YOU WILL FAIL UTTERLY, COMPLETELY, & MISERABLY.
