ehh created the topic: 46 gallon bow front

Dimensions are 36x16x20

I have it in a closet and I think I want to get it running haha.

I was thinking of stocking it with neons and emperor tetras and such. Looking for advice on stocking numbers. Because I know the bioload is not going to be much and they're aren't aggressive so I'm thinking I can really stock it. I was thinking like 25 or so fish total. 5 different schools of fish?

Tips? Ideas?

I think 25 neons or cardinals in there and then go for a couple tetras mixed. Are you looking to go planted? You could do shrimp. Or do 25 neons a couple of drawf gourami. I think you are looking on 30/ 35 fish tops depending on what types. But thats just my guess there would need to know filter lights.

See what others suggest. But it sounds a nice size tank.

I'm living my life, but not necessarily in the right order :)

I would go 15 neons, 4 dwarf gouramis, 2 otocinclus, 2 aple snails, and maybe a couple hatchet/killi fish

otocinclus are still all wild caught, are very delicate, need to school, and are being driven to extincition due to overfishing. Think twice here.

Not going planted lol. I don't think I want that many neons. I'm looking for much more of a mix. Thanks for the ideas though! Gives me ideas of what to work with.

I would consider filling up all levels on a tank:
A school of corys in the bottom, an alternative would be a rainbow shark.
A nice gourami for the top, my preferred is pearl gourami, a wonderful personality, I might say, at least as good as an oscar.
for the mid level plenty of options:
If you want fish constantly moving and you don't mind fish that might get you dizzy, get some danio, you can have a mixed school of zebra, albino leopard and long finned danio (or even glofish if you don't mind genetically modified fish)
Tertas can also work for the mid level, two schools red eye and black skirt tetras would be fine.
A stunning fish yet under rated, bosemanian rainbow fish (they might eat your neons though)
livebearers are an option here, don't worry about overpopulation natural selection will take care of it :)

Why not do something a bit unusual? Blackwater setup with apistogrammas, or killifish, or really nice bolivian or german blue rams? (neons/cardinals would fit here too :) )

Set up a West-African river biotope, with jewels or kribensis, butterfly fish and appropriate small fish?

Or, do a cold water, fast flowing riverine setup with white cloud minnows and chinese algae eaters or flying foxes, or one of those really flat suckermouth fish.

Do some rare and/or exotic livebearers, like halfbeaks (I haven't seen these in a pet shop in forever) or limia nigrofasciata. Maybe even endler's or red tailed goodeids.

Or, brackish water with sailfin mollies (much underrated fish).
