Nina made me curious so I did a google search and came up with this thread from another forum. Someone asked advice about glass vs acrylic for a large tank, and all the responses were in favor of the glass.

Thanks, Nina. I just assumed that acrylic would be better. Guess that isn't necessarily true.

I really think each has their own strengths, with good reasons to use either. But me, I'm a glass person. Eddie has a 265 acrylic, though. He buffed out scratches, while on Wicket's glass tank, I just have to live with the scratches forever more.

My last acrylic 110g tank lasted 13 years without leaking. It was also about 0.5" off level.

I think you need to broaden your search on acrylic versus glass. I've found it is 50/50 on which way to go for really big tanks. What I generally see as the deciding factor is weight. Glass is easily 2-3x heavier than acrylic. For a glass 8x2x2 tank you'll need anywhere from 4-8 people. For the same dimensions in acrylic, you only need 2.

Well, everyone has given good suggestions and ideas. Thank you all!

I believe what I will do, for now, is finish setting up my 150 upstairs, then I will probably, in the next month or two, buy a 75 gal from PetSmart and set up a community tank against a wall in the basement. Perhaps a couple of Angels, and other assorted things. Hopefully, can do live plants in this tank.

Later on, perhaps late this year or sometime next year, I'll get the big monster tank set up on the platform. That should give me plenty of time to plan it out.
