Bri B created the topic: 10 gallon possible inhabitants

Hey all. Was hooked up with a 10 gallon setup so I obviously set it up instantly lol. Just wondering what possibly 3 or 4 smaller fish I could safely have. Right now there is just a super tiny clown pleco and 2 Danios. Have other tanks I can put them in if I wanted to do some other fish but may end up just keeping those 3. Any suggestions would be great or any fish setups you guys have successfully had in a 10 gal would be cool to hear.

Look into shell dwellers. Super awesome for a nano set up.

Dmd I have no idea what a shell dweller is. I assume u don't mean hermit crabs.

I looked them up. Very cool Dmd I'll certainly look into that. They have the distinct cichlid look but so little and u can decorate the tank really nice also. Thanks for the suggestion.

That's an easy one for me. Keep a lookout for a nice betta. You can add 3 red cherry shrimp and 1 or 2 white pearl shrimp and an otocinclus. Plant some easy growing plants that will grow in low light. They have anubias, java moss and java fern at petco in tanks. Another pretty, hardy plant is compacta sold at petsmart and petco in those plastic tube containers. You can have a flourite substrate but the plants will also do well in sand or gravel. The tank will stay very clean compared to other tanks because betta fish eat so little. The cherry shrimp, white pearl shrimp and otocinclus eat algae. I've never fed mine ... they live off whatever grows in the tank. And the tank will stay very clean as the plants will keep down algae growth and improve water quality.

When choosing a betta, keep in mind that the beautiful expensive bettas are more likely to have health problems. My only regular veil tail betta is the most active and healthy. You can find veil tails that look fantastic.

I have a 10 gallon like this and it's my favorite tank to look at.

Great info as usual unc. I've been very interested in getting some live plants so this would be the perfect opportunity. The setup is the Marineland stand 10 gal with the penguin bio wheel filter and heater etc. I put some established media in there since all of us mts sufferers have plenty of established media on hand lol. I gotta say that I really want to keep this clown pleco here. It's the smallest pleco I've ever seen. He's barely longer than the zebra Danios. So many choices but I'd love to have live plants regardless.

No name yet but it will be Sir something lol. He's 2 inches long and that might be a stretch.

I got my friend involved in fish recently by giving him a 20L set up. He decided to do some multi's (shell dweller) and they are pretty awesome. I would totally consider them if I had a small spare tank.

As luck would havie t I have several, and a store pretty closethatstocks the shell dwellers on a regular basis. Looking at uhcs banner pics is a pretty compelling reason to go betta though.
