Guys zeus is doing great and looks like he is having a little growth spurt and getting a little wider. I originally got the tiger babrs to help spread his aggression if I removed them would that cause him to become solitary and not be as ourgoing ?

Also had a question about sexing. I over fed the other day accidently (was trying to get the cat to eat) and the shaft (I dont know what its called) protruded and it looked pointy like an upside down triangle is that male ?

Yes that points to it being more likely a Zeus instead of Hera. Females look like they have a eraser (my Bifa had an eraser).

He will become more of a wet pet without the barbs when he gets larger 6+". At a smaller size, I would leave the barbs in to make him feel comfortable.

Exactly wouldnt be cool calling him zeus if he was a she. Thanks rock. If I decide to add more args and see if I can find him a hera then I should he able to get rid of the barbs

I have a friend who breeds lots of fish in 75g tanks with good success. He uses large clay pots in his tanks and tries to provide a spot for the smaller female to hide if necessary. Usually this is not a long term home and not all pairs work out well with males killing their mates. A bit longer of a footprint with plenty of hiding spots would probably help.

I was thinking long term. Its cool I could just keep zeus by himself in a 75 or 90. Unless I can find some space for a 6 ft

I dont alternate my foods but I mix them all up when I feed. The fish seem to not develop a taste for just one food and eat everything. I mix sizes and types of food. As an example I have both small, medium and large pellets in both a floating and sinking so that all fish have a chance to feed. My mix has NLS, Omega One, Dainichi, and Northfin. The fish just eat it all.
