Dogs have been w/ man since time immemorial as our companions; cave drawings that are from before the written word substantiate that. They are not food. There are people that go hungry every night in every part of this country too, that don't know when their next meal is, & I don't think people here eat dog.

I know where my food comes from; where I grew up in Philly there was a slaughterhouse around the corner.(I think there's a strip mall there now.) Those animals are raised for food; not too many people have pet cows or chickens(I'm sure there are a few, but that's not the norm).

And like I said, dogfighting, which is also barbaric, is part of other cultures; do I have to tolerate that as well?

Fighting an animal for no other reason than your own entertainment and using it as a food source are two different things.
Everyone has their opinion about this subject and the great thing is that we don't always have to agree. I can see your point Jack , and I think I couldn't get myself to eat a dog or cat , regardless if its my pet or even a dog that would be raised as a food source , I just can't judge others that may not have a choice. That's all.

You stated it's part of their culture; dogfighting is also steeped very deeply into some people's cultures & found to be quite acceptable; both are barbaric; the argument & comparison are therefore valid.

Dog is a delicacy, not one culture I'm aware of raises them for food out of necessity, too expensive too raise, not productive enough, compared w/ let's say chicken or fish. It is abhorrent, uncivilized, barbaric, & unnecessary. Again, this is why most of the countries where this vile practice occurs have outlawed it, as civilized society finds it repellent, part of a "culture" or not.

Nowhere did I say that eating dog is part of a culture. I simply said I am not going to judge another country OR their culture. I don't know why they decided to eat dogs or cats. Personally I am thankful I don't have to eat either one. And as far as I am concerned we were talking about animals as a food source and not who fights what damn animal.
I didn't argue your points , I simply stated my damn opinion.
Ken said something very close to what I stated. And some others did as well. So why don't you go try to argue with them.

All i was saying was we need to keep in mind that it is still part of some peoples culture that may frequent this site, i never wanted this to turn into a moral debate i just was hoping it could be kept civil despite the cultural differences

I gotta be honest, my lutino was pretty big when I rehomed him and I have wondered on more than one occasion how he'd taste on a sandwich  but like anything I have a personal attachment to I would never have ate him unless it was the end of the world and I was starving. In such a situation my neighbors would be in peril as well

i concur with Ken... the topic simply ask "would you eat your own fish?"
for me...yes... and i've been doing that for so long...

we should not be carried out emotionally if we feel offended or slighted by the comments of others...
