The whole bottom line to ALL of this is that a great deal of the cichlids we hold dear ARE DISAPPEARING FROM THE WILD. If cross-breeding is allowed, hybrids accepted as "OK", or thought nothing of, that whole" who cares" attitude, then one day, they may disappear altogether.

We as responsible hobbysists should strive to keep & if we have the means breed those fish that we hold dear so that future generations of fish-keepers can enjoy what we have today.

Also, on a side note, I have never seen a cross-breed that was more attractive than either of the parent fish, especially horrible mutated freaks like BP's. Nature can always make something infinitely more beautiful than anything man can concoct.

THOSE WHO REFUSE KNOWLEDGE ARE DOOMED TO FAIL.

WATER CHANGES ARE THE LIFEBLOOD OF THIS HOBBY. IF YOU DON'T BELIEVE SO OR SIMPLY DON'T FEEL LIKE DOING THEM, RE-HOME YOUR FISH, SELL YOUR AQUARIUM & FIND ANOTHER HOBBY, AS YOU WILL FAIL UTTERLY, COMPLETELY, & MISERABLY.

 took a few minutes to read the thread and I gotta say I never really thought about it. But I would have to say hybrids are a bad idea. Don't know if this is a hybrid or just a genetic joke but.. :( poor thing

That is a bubble-eye goldfish, & unfortunately, it's not a joke.

They were line-bred for that defect, I would assume in the Far East. These things can barely swim.

i could make the same points against Line breeding if someone makes a better looking fish then everyone's going to want that fish and the ugly fish is going to disappear from the hobby

i'm heating a glass box filled with water not to mention the 200+ gallons of water that go down the drain each week this hobby isn't exactly ECO friendly i mean at this rate my grandchildren will by lucky to have a breathable atmosphere

i have to ask what's your thoughts on Mules .. a donkey and a Horse crossbreed
Now your just makin an @ss of yourself. Lol. Sorry just kidding, I couldn't let that one slip by. Mules have been bred to help humans. It is unethical but we don't exactly do everything ethical as humans to help us survive and make our lives easier. I would never collect mules as a hobby by the way.

ps really mules?! :pinch:

i bring them up because of how stable they are their not endangering horses or donkeys and they look like completely natural animals

that is the sad part of the hybrid/crossbreed fish... we have plenty of that kind of fish here in my place but
i am not buying them... unfortunately, there are plenty of hobbyist trying to outdo one another and the said
weird looking fish now command good price,... to the advantages of the breeder and the pet shop...
i just don't know how long could they last in a enclosed environment...

I'm not mad it just does not fit in this debate because mules cannot reproduce and thus cannot muddy up the blood lines ..

Sorry you feel offended just poking some fun ...
